By the light of a gas lantern, the first vintage of Mount Pleasant was created. It was nineteen twenty one and Maurice O'Shea wasn't afforded the luxury of electricity. Equipped only with the basic tools of a petrol driven crusher, hand pumps, an old basket press, blocks of ice and a concrete tank, O'Shea brought Mount Pleasant to life. From vineyards first planted in eighteen eighty by Charles King, and then expanded in the nineteen twenties, thirties & forties, legendary winemaker Maurice O'Shea crafted some of the greatest Australian wines of all time. Sourced from the Hunter Valley's oldest and finest vineyards, the Maurice O'Shea Shiraz is both a tribute to one of Australia's most important winemakers and the ultimate expression of Mount Pleasant winemaking.
